The Tamarin Santana Golf Club, located just beside Nongsa Point Marina is the first course in the area designed by Jack Nicklaus. It has been strategically designed with sculptured bunkers and contoured greens, however only 9 of the 18 holes of the 'golden bear' course have been completed. Although it is only a 9 hole course do not be fooled as it is an extremely tough test of golf. The 1st hole a short par 4 measuring 350 yards and played from a high tee to a wide fairway gives you the impression that this is going to be easy - but that will not be the case if you do not hit an accurate drive as there is O.B. right & 2 extremely inviting fairway bunkers, not to mention the sloping fairway. If you get the first out of the way in regulation you will be happy, however you will now start meeting longer water holes with small and tight landing areas! As you arrive at the Nongsapura ferry terminal at Batam from Singapore look out to your left from the deck you will have an "A class" view of the 5th on the Tamarin course, this is sure to whet your appetite as the ferry carefully makes it's way to the jetty. General:
Club facilities include: Getting there:
Located as part of the Nongsa development access is perfect for those staying at either the Marina or the Turi Beach Hotel, you can be picked up from your chalet by one of the club cars and virtually be on the course in seconds. Driving from waterfront city will take about 50minutes or 45 minutes from Nagoya.
Notes: The course had started to improve in condition since January 2006 when new caddies & ground staff where employed. However due to the general low condition and as this course has not managed to be completed to the original designed 18 holes yet, we feel that to travel from Nagoya or Waterfront is not practical. But if you are staying close at either Nongsa Resort or the Batam View it could be worth spending some time doing 9 or 18 holes practicing - Depending on your other schedules, it makes a great way to spend a couple of hours that you have unexpectedly found to be spare.
