Planned a short trip to Batam with a dear friend of mine - Kok. (It was really short! 2D1N)
I’ve known her since uni days and we’ve been through fat and thin. (I fat, she thin)
One of my bestest friend, shopping kaki and confidante. She is someone
i can trust to give an honest and objective opinion whenever i have
problems/frustrations.
During our first Girls’ Only trip to Taiwan in 2005, we found out
that we had the natural ability to tahan each other. (In other words,
we did not cat fight, get on each other’s nerves. Instead, we ate,
shop, shop, ate somemore… We also watched porn on tv, drank beer… I
guess it buoys down to common interests :P)
So, on 7 Jun 08, we set off to enjoy our weekend spa rendezvous.
Being the first time that both of us are catching the ferry to
Batam, we reached Harbourfront at 8.20am to collect the ferry tickets.
The ferry was scheduled to leave at 9.20am and we only started to queue
at 9am! Problem - the queue was horrendous!!! I have never seen such a
loooong queue. The queue basically snaked to the end of the building
and back again. I estimate the number to be about 200 and everyone had
to go through 2-3 immigration barriers.
At 9.10am, we were still eons away from getting to the front of the
queue so we decided to approach some officials before we miss the
ferry. Luckily there was a very helpful official that advised us to
bypass the queue. So we were allowed to “cut queue” rightfully.
Thinking that we were the last few to arrive, we dashed to the
ferry. But lo and behold, we were one of the first few!!! Incredibly,
we waited for another hour before the ferry left the harbour.
Apparently, there was a Church who organised a retreat at Batam and
there were 300 participants so the entire ferry had to wait for all of
them to make it to the ferry….. *Hmph* And there we were, rushing to
make it On Time and sacrificing our breakfast.
Ha, i’m never good with crowds so i tend to complain quite abit.
Anyways, we reached our destination - Holiday Inn and were blown
away by the service, the scenic views, our beautiful suite and the
relaxing atmosphere. Shiok!
In the afternoon, we travelled to the City area for lunch and some
shopping. Shopping was not really fruitful cos there wasn’t much that
caught our eye. (read: Obiang!) And we had KFC for lunch. Dun pray
pray, they have KFC in Singapore, Malaysia and even Batam! LOL. They
also have A&W!!!! (We drank rootbeer float there) Strangely, i
didn’t see the famous golden arches.
Flavour wise, the crispy chicken were similar to what we can find in
Singapore. The difference - They offer rice in place of mashed
potatoes. But we had the rice changed to fries (which were sucky!). And
the other thing that was out of the norm - proper plates were used
instead of paper boxes. *Impressed*
I’m running out of steam after writing so much. (Hands tired too) Shall skip straight to our Spa experience.
What can i say? Simply blissful…
3 hours of being pampered like a princess.
- Avocado Body Scrub
- Oatmeal Body Masque
- Balinese Body Massage
Shiok….
First time trying out the body masque. The spa lady lathered a thick
layer of oil all over my body. I smelled like cereal prawns! I was also
wrapped up in a plastic sheet to “stew” for 20 minutes. Now i know how
it feels like to be a 纸
Note to self: Resolve to go for a weekend trip overseas at least once a year.
Did i mention that the jacuzzi was available for all spa guests?
The initial plan was to lounge beside the pool and catch some sun. But
the cloudy sky spoilt the plan. So, we retreated to the jacuzzi on a
stroke of genius.
That was the best decision we made on the trip… Shall let the photos speak for themselves…
